Portrait Friedrich W. Huetz
( German, 1816 - 1868 )

Oil on canvas
Size Notes:
Frame: 172 x 139.5 cm
Markings:
Signed and dated lower right ‘E. Leutze. 1863’ as well as inscribed ‘Guten Morgen Vielliebchen.’
Condition:
The paint surface is evenly craquelured and shows faint marks, where the frame has rubbed. There is a restored vertical tear of approximately 3 cm at the upper edge of the sitter's hat, which has been supported with a piece of fabric from the reverse. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching to the tear, the face and the hands as well as to the clothes of the sitter. Otherwise of good overall impression
